Snow golf (golf sur la neige)
Snow golf is a sport based on golf but played over snow instead of grass
The first snow golf trophy competition of the Pyrenees took place on Saturday 1st March 2008 in Font Romeu.
Organised by Square Partners S.A, in partnership with the golf course and town of Font Romeu, and Alti Service, this golf competition, at an altitude of 1800 metres, in temperatures well below 0°, is very much ’something completely different’. Played on a multi-leveled course covered in snow, hopefully under blue skies, this is a game for any golfer looking for a new challenge. The actual competition attracts mainly players from the south of France - Toulouse, Perpignan, Montpellier, north Catalonia.....both amateur and professional, and is open to members of the FFG (handicap 36), and to foreign players who are members of federations in their own country. There is also a ’série Pro’.
Everything possible has been done to offer the best possible welcome to both players and spectators alike, with a maximum of facilities, including a specially adapted course, luminous balls for night golf, entertainment and relaxation between swings at the hot springs of Saint-Thomas and the casino de Font-Romeu, surprise guests......
In this next Snow Golf Trophy challenge, players will play in teams of two, with a rubber tee, which will allow them to raise the ball up higher. The ball will be a fluorescent orange!
About snow golf
Snow golf is certainly a little more difficult to play than normal golf - high altitudes, low temperatures, and the wearing of heavy clothing make the swing more difficult.
Equipment
Good walking boots, light gloves and hat along with warm anoraks and general ski-type clothing are recommended. Clubs are limited to six with a light golfing bag as there is no caddy or golf buggy available and it is essential to be able to move around freely.
